Last week, in Second Step, we reviewed the meaning of empathy and had a lesson/discussion about listening with attention.  Our goals in 5R and OQS are to follow PAWS, which includes showing respect.  We discussed how listening with attention relates to showing respect.  This week we will learn about being assertive.  Being assertive means asking for what you need or want in a calm, firm, respectful voice.  Being assertive can lead to success in social and academic situations!

During the first weeks of school, we learned about the US Constitution in social studies. “Constitution and Citizenship Day” is celebrated on September 17 each year.  September 17th is the day on which the Constitution was signed in 1787.   The fifth grade did a presentation about the Preamble of the Constitution, through song, at the grades 3 - 5 Community Meeting on Friday 9/16/16.  We also presented some information about the Pledge of Allegiance and the Star Spangled Banner.
